Wheat...West coast wheat markets regained some ground late in the week
against the modest rally across the futures complex. The recent break in
prices did attract export interest over the past week as global buyers
stepped toward the U.S. market, led by strong sales for hard red winter.
Weekly Sales...USDA revealed a big week for U.S. wheat export demand,
as combined old and new crop sales came in at nearly 30 million bushels.
New crop sales of 27.4 million bushels moved that total just above year-
ago levels at 121 million bushels. Hard red winter was the top seller
with 10 million bushels, followed by soft red winter with 5.5 million.
Hard red spring secured 8.3 million bushels and white wheat saw another
3.6 million booked into the new marketing year. Unknown was top buyer
with 9 million bushels, followed by Indonesia with 2.6 million bushels
and Taiwan with 2.1 million.
New Crop Commitments...Hard red winter new crop sales have rebounded
relative to a year ago, setting at 42 million bushels versus 24 million
bushels. Hard red spring new crop commitments set at 34 million bushels
compared to 42 million, and white wheat bookings are at 18 million versus
32 million bushels a year ago.
